New Jersey Devils Timo Meier underwent shoulder surgery, expected to make full recovery
? Ed Mulholland-USA TODAY Sports

The New Jersey Devils announced Tuesday that forward Timo Meier opted to undergo elective arthroscopic surgery on his shoulder. The surgery was performed by Devils’ Chief Medical Officer Dr. Jonathan L. Glashow and Team Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Guillem Gonzalez-Lomas.

Meier is expected to make a full recovery ahead of the 2024-25 regular season.

The 27-year-old notched 28 goals and 24 assists for 52 points in 69 games. Meier missed a dozen games in total this season due to an upper-body injury that he suffered in November and again in January in which the Devils subsequently placed him on injured reserve.

Meier is in the first year of an eight-year, $70,400,000 contract that has an average annual value of $8.8 million. Devils general manager Tom Fitzgerald signed the Swiss product to the monster extension in the summer after being acquired from the San Jose Sharks at the 2023 trade deadline alongside Scott Harrington, Timur Ibragimov, Zachary Emond, Santeri Hatakaa, and a 2024 fifth-round pick in exchange for Shakir Mukhamadullin, Andreas Johnsson, Fabian Zetterlund, Nikita Okhotyuk, a 2023 first-round pick, a conditional 2024 first-round pick, and a 2024 seventh-round pick.

In 541 career games with the San Jose Sharks and Devils Meier has totalled 191 goals and 191 assists for 382 points over parts of eight seasons.

New Jersey finished seventh in the Metropolitan Division with a 38-39-5 record and 81 points. According to Daily Faceoff’s 2024 NHL Draft Lottery odds the Devils currently hold the 10th spot with a 3.5% chance of wining the lottery and selecting Hobey Baker Award winner and Boston University superstar Macklin Celebrini first overall.
